Alumni Spotlight, Brian Schon

Alumni_Spotlight_-_Brian_Schon.jpg

Brian Schon is an entrepreneur, cultural cheerleader, and recovering political junky based in Medellin, Colombia. An MBA and MPP graduate of the Heller School at Brandeis University, Brian helped start a successful national non-profit in the U.S. and worked in the public and private sectors before deciding to focus on international development. He dropped everything and joined the Peace Corps where he served in Ukraine to help draft a regional strategic plan in his town and promote independent, non-censored journalism online. He was eventually evacuated when the Russians invaded.

In Colombia he has co-founded a company to open the region’s first sustainable, responsible eco-lodge. The project will celebrate the tremendous culture and beauty of Colombia, which is still trying to shed an aged reputation and demonstrate that sustainable and high-quality development is the future. Brian believes in using smart development as a means to include and empower local communities and is already planning project expansions. When he has time, he really enjoys blogging about his experience.
